WAS working great

WAS working great

Postby sfschenck » Tue Oct 13, 2009 7:28 pm

Program was working fine until last week. It disappeared from the taskbar and if I attempted to run it I would get this message: "Windows 7 Firewall Control Service is not running".

I reinstalled and still the behavior persists. I installed Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 but Win7 FWC has been working with it for several weeks so I don't know if that's the culprit or not.

I notice that the service is not starting automatically and will not start manually either.

O/S is Windows 7 Ultimate final release trial. Any ideas anyone?

thanks

Dear Scott,

Would be hard to detect the culprit if the problem is irreproducible…..
Anyway the message means Windows7FirewallService.exe (the required service) located in the installation directory is not running/registered properly.

The simplest way to restore is to reinstall W7FC on-the-top of the existing installation. The installer has to recover such problem.

Here is some more details for investigations (if you would like to)
- Check Windows7FirewallService.exe is present is the installation directory (the default is ProgramFiles/Windows7FirewallControl)
-MyComputer/RightClick/Manage/Services applet should show you Windows7FirewallService as a service. Check whether it is running, otherwise start it via “start” in the applet. The direct exe invocation is senseless.
- After the service is up and running you can try to run VistaFirewallControl.exe (the main panel) from the installation directory via Start/Programs for instance or anyhow else as any other regular application.

Sincerely,

I re-installed the software to no avail. I did see that the service was not running, but when I tried to start it, it would not start. When I executed Windows7FirewallService.exe then it started and I was able to bring up the interface. All my previous settings were gone however. I still like the program because it has such a small footprint so if the problem persists I will keep working on it! :|
