The latest Betas/Releases

Some applications behave strange when blocked with this Firewall like UACs 'Consent.exe' (maybe wants to update revocation list or signatures by crt.microsoft.com) producing waitstates of 3-4 seconds every time they start up (until connection gets properly initiated). May affect some MSI or setup installers as well. Its like DENY/DROP and REJECT as if programs don't get told properly they are blocked and they still try and try.

Actually the “when blocked” behavior is 100% application dependent.
Sometimes the behavior can be explained (the suggestion for the revocation list update is very reasonable), sometimes the behavior is unpredictable, but beyond W7FC functionality still.
Typically applications try to interpret a “no connection” (when blocked) result properly stopping connection attempts after a reasonable timeout. The connection attempt and timeout counters belong to the application anyway.
However there are still some applications hang after a connection attempt failed and require the application restart. Very few applications are able to process localhost (127.0.0.1) activity blocked for instance

Hello,

if you permit the question:
what are the disadvantages of uprading from v. 3.x free to v. 4.x free?
Will I lose features or will the trialperiod be limited?
How would a transfer of config/settings be possible from v.3 to v.4?

Thanks for the clarification. The product seems to work well so far, although the user has to indulge a bit more than the usual install&forget stuff. (speaking about v. 3.x free)

regards, s.

There are no disadvantages, you will just get the latest (more featured) version for free.

>Will I lose features or will the trialperiod be limited?

The Free version does not linked to any kind of trial period.
The Free version is just free forever.

>How would a transfer of config/settings be possible from v.3 to v.4?

By installing the latest version on-the-top of the existing installation.

>although the user has to indulge a bit more than the usual install&forget stuff. (speaking about v. 3.x free)

“What is safe” for a user can be extremely dangerous for another one. The security environment and security policy vary significantly from user to user. So there can be no universal settings, adjustments etc. Any firewall just a tool to implement the security policy and will hardly be a “one-click” solution of the security problems.

That's what I get when using the latest beta.

This popup reappears every second after I closed the last one.

Actually, one of the previous betas had the problem.
The latest 4.1.8.57 works correctly, we have just verified. Please try.

I uninstalled and re-installed the application and the problem was gone, but there is another issue.Whenever I put my PC to sleep, Windows Firewall Control will crash upon awakening.

We tried to reproduce the problem without any success.
Might we offer you the logging version. The logged problem could help us to find a solution.
Please contact support [at] sphinx-soft [dot] com referring this thread.
or just get 4.1.9

This is strange. I installed the logging-version and the problem disappeared. I uninstalled it and re-installed the latest 4.1.9-beta and the problem disappeared for about two nights. Now I'm getting the same error again:

Plus or Server Edition? Seems Plus
32 or 64?
Did it happen with a previous Plus version?
Are there any active items in the Portforwarding tab
