Removal of Flash installer from programs list

Removal of Flash installer from programs list

Postby Fred95 » Fri Jun 10, 2011 7:03 pm

Windows 7 starter
W7FW (free - 4.1.14.73)

Ive been running your firewall controller for a while now, and have just noticed that I cannot remove the Flash installers/un-installers from the programs list.

If I open the firewall and go to programs, listed is:

Adobe Flash Player installer/uninstaller - 10.2 r159
and
Adobe Flash Player installer/uninstaller - 10.3 r181

Both are marked as 'Enable All(Read only)'

If I try to delete them (Right-click and delete) it fails as 'could not be deleted'.
And if you double left click you are told 'Only Plus edition allows system applications access management'.

Question - how do I remove them? They are just used once when Flash is installed, I don't want or need them there all the time. I guess I'm going to get one listed at every flash update, which is not required (by me anyway).

Thanks

PS - I'm installing Flash plugin, by going to the adobe site, downloading the installer, and running it from my desktop. I install both flash's, the plugin for Firefox/Opera as well as the ActiveX version for IE. Not sure what one is being left in the firewall list.

The Free version limitation is inability to control network activity of system (located in Windows\*.*) applications. The applications are marked with “ReadOnly”

We do not see a problem of applications listing regardless of the applications usage frequency.

The system applications are beyond the control with the GUI.
The workaround is
- Close W7FC from TrayIcon/RightClick
- Stop Windows7FirewallService from services.msc (do NOT kill the process)
- using regedit delete the related key in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\sphinx-soft\Vista-Wall\1.0\AppList. (use regedit 64-bit on 64 bit systems)
- start Windows7FirewallService from services.msc (do NOT start as a regular application)
- start W7FC (Windows7FirewallControl.exe) manually as a regular application

VistaFirewallControl, thanks for the reply.

Hmmm, I think we will have to agree to disagree on this one.

Firewall control should be as simple as possible, I don't want to have to go editing the registry to remove unwanted or no longer required entries in the firewall list. And as Flash seems to be updated about every 4-5 weeks, by the end of the year I could have about 10-12 such entries.

I could understand (maybe) the free version not letting you configure 'system' things in it's list, after all its a free version and will possibly have some limitations I guess. But not letting you just delete them seems a bit too much for me.

Thanks.

The option to delete system applications with Free version will be available in the nearest build

Many thanks for the reply and info.

I'll investigate/test later.

EDIT: - Whats the best way to upgrade? i.e. just download and install the beta over the top, or remove the original, D/L and then install the new?

Thank you

As you wish, on-the-top just retains the previous settings.

Thank you for enabling this feature in updates.
Even though flash update was allowed, it would not update.
Now i can remove the entry and start afresh.

Great program. Thanks
