reinstalling after reformat

reinstalling after reformat

Postby name » Mon Dec 05, 2011 4:49 pm

I'm reformatting my hard drive in the next couple of days. I want to reinstall my Windows 7 Firewall Control 3.5.1.131 with the least amount of hassle. I've looked at other posts and the FAQs regarding this issue but it's still not clear to me whether I can use my current registration code to re-register or whether I need to get a new registration code.

Can I simply reinstall it using my existing registration code after reformatting? Or, do I need to email you folks to get a new registration code, explaining that I reformatted my hard drive, that I'm not a criminal, yada, yada, yada.

I apologize for the defensive posture but I've been a very loyal customer since the beginning - version 1 - before you had a retail system in place. In the past with earlier versions it was a hassle to reinstall after a reformat because I had to email you folks and explain my situation to get a new code. I was made to feel as if I was doing something wrong for simply wanting to use the product I had paid for. As a result, I've simply purchased upgraded versions to avoid going through the same reinstall hassles experienced with version 1. I'M NOT DOING THAT THIS TIME AROUND. I think I've spent enough money with your company (on several PCs) to be treated as a valued customer and not as a criminal. I hope you agree.

Also: I see that there's an update from version 3.5.1 to 3.8.1. Where does one get this updated version?

You can use (perpetual for purchased version) license code to register and to get the (installation dependent) registration code instantly.

So you can simply reinstall (the same version) and register the installation with the license code.
The registration (getting the registration code) can be performed with the license code anytime:
(a) online (instant)
Or
(b) by e-mail (manually processed).

Please follow the instructions on TrayIcon/RightClick/Register.

The complete registration description

• open the Registration form (W7FCTrayIcon/RightClick/Register)
• put the VFC..... License code into the field at item 2
• press "online" (*) at item 3
• check registration code (**) and press "register" at item 4 to store the code within the program.
(*) registration code or error message is displayed within a couple of seconds. "By e-mail" option will require manual up to 48+ hours processing at our side. So, the online method is more preferable.
(**) descriptive error message may be shown instead of registration code. Most probably because of (a) syntax/case errors in the License code, (b) incorrect usage of a License code from another version/product.
Re-registration is required after upgrade or re-installation onto a different media (backup restoration causes the media virtually changed sometimes). The registration code change confirms the re-registration was required for the reasons above.

>I had to email you folks and explain my situation to get a new code.

The online (instant) registration is introduced since v 2. (about 3 years ago)
The email registration could be required in very specific environment (no internet connection of the PC with W7FC installation, for instance)

>I think I've spent enough money with your company (on several PCs) to be treated as a valued customer and not as a criminal. I hope you agree.

We do appreciate the choice of W7FC made by you.

>Also: I see that there's an update from version 3.5.1 to 3.8.1. Where does one get this updated
version?

The latest 3.x is 3.5.1. 3.8 was a temporary, never released version before version 4.
3.8/3.9 were discontinued with 4.x generation release.

The current version is 4.1. (4.5 is available as prerelease)
3.x can be downloaded from the Archive section of the order page.

Thank you!... a very thorough and helpful explanation. My confusion stemmed from the distinction between the license code and the registration code and the automatic online registration process after entering the VFC license code. My apologies for jumping the gun here.

Thanks again.

We would like to resume with a brief “dictionary” and hope the summary will be helpful for somebody else.

License code
– perpetual, valid for purchased version code.
Typically the code looks like
PPPPVVVVVVxxxxxxxxx, where

PPPP is the product code
e.g
VFCR – VistaFirewallControlRegular (“Vista” - as the product line started from Windows Vista and re-targeted to Windows7 later kepping Vista compatibility)
XFCR – XPFirewallControlRegular (the XP product brunch) etc

VVVVVVV – the product version of the license, e.g 04000000, v.4.0.0.0 (actually means any 4.x.x.x)

xxxxxxxx (the length varies)– the code itself

(The license is legal for a single, non concurrent product installation)

Registration code is the code to confirm/"sign" current product installation.
Applying the license code to the registration form gives the registration,"signs" the validity of the current installation. The registration code is unique for every installation.
Re-installation requires new registration. The code is generated by us automatically with online registration or manually during e-mail registration

Serial Numberr (required for manual, by e-mail registration only) –
The identifier of current installation, the code is generated by the installation automatically and unique for the installation. The code is used to generate the registration code.
The code is sent to us automatically (implicitly) along with the license code by online registration or the both code must be sent us manually with e-mail registration request.
The product does not gather any personal information from your computer and includes just a hardware identifier. So, the serial number does not contain any personal data.
