Program rules to not hold

Program rules to not hold

Postby control_freak » Sat Oct 29, 2011 12:58 am

I am using Windows7FirewallControl and it is an excellent program.
Have tried other firewalls and they are way more complicated that what i need.

One issue i have though is i keep getting asked to allow/disallow programs i have previously allowed (many times). For example, Avast continually triggers Windows7FirewallControl into asking what i want to do with updates.

Not sure what is going on here, it's not a big deal but is frustrating.

Is there a fix for this in the free version?

Have been thinking of purchasing the full version. Wonder if it has the same issue?

cheers

W7FC treats (lists/controls) different executables separately. So
ABC001.exe and ABC002.exe are treated separately regardless of the both EXEs are equal.
Some applications generate temporary one-time download helpers for every single access attempt, W7FC blocks any initial access attempt and lists the program, the application can generate a temporary (differently named, but of the same content) helper again then, W7FC blocks/lists it as new network requester again and the process may loop.

So if you have multiple items of a program or multiple requests from the "same" program, please verify the applications paths. Most probably the paths are actually different.
Please read the F.A.Q (“Mutable (Web) Installer Helpers” and “Multiple app(1), app(2) etc entries in Programs list”) for the details.
