I installed a licensed version of the WFWC-XP on one laptop. I did a switch to another laptop and reregisted this one leaving the old laptop as "backup" / "test" installation.
How to unregister the old one leaving it in a "trial" mode version in order not to interfere with the new registration? Best to do a uninstall / reinstall?

You have to just uninstall the previous installation.

Did the uninstall; received a BSOD caused by the "windows7firewallcontrol.sys" with msg Driver_IRQL_not_less_or_equal.
After reboot, a number of trace are still present in the registry: e.g. HKCU/software/sphinx-soft and several when searching on "windows7firewallcontrol".

Do not skip reboot requests on installation/deinstallation.
The problem arises typically while removing the driver on high network activity passes through the driver. So W7FCXP uninstaller marks the driver for the deletion and requests reboot (for smooth the driver deletion).
If reboot is missed the state is unpredictable.
install/deinstall cycle fixes the problem.
The driver can be uninstalled separately via MyComputer/RightClick/manage/DeviceManager (show hidden/nonUpnp devices)/Windows7FirewallControl.sys/uninstall

Ho,ho, not so fast.
This action was just to make sure that the registered version stays like that on my "standard" laptop. Now the free version is on the backup-laptop. Nice, simple and tidy (compared to e.g. PCtools free firewall ). Thanks for the advice.
