pingtest.net is blocked

pingtest.net is blocked

Postby Chrysalis » Thu Apr 14, 2011 5:27 am

Hi, I paid for the app and I think is great but have a problem.

The website pingtest.net tests ping performance but when using this firewall app it is blocked, and I get no popup or anything logged.

I know the website runs java to do the test so I have tried manually doing EnableALL on java but it doesnt work.

Just tried, worked as a charm.
We have no information regarding the ping details. However the service hardly uses ping (ICMP 6) genuine approach.
Setting disabling zone to java discovers the related applet utilizes port 8080 bidirectional activity. Settings enableAll to java allows the “ping” test in full.

We suspect a part of the ping test functionality uses incoming port 8080 activity that can be blocked by a third party, by Windows Firewall or by your internet provider. Sometimes internet providers block well known incoming ports for the security reason.
If the internet connection is maintained by a hardware, the hardware may be a reason as well.

We could suggest a way to verify that by running a temporary web server at port 8080 and asking somebody outside your LAN/provider to try to access the server.
