Outlook 2003 cannot connect to pop server.

Outlook 2003 cannot connect to pop server.

Postby robochamp » Tue Mar 16, 2010 1:02 am

When I run Windows Firewall Control Plus I receive the message unable to connect to pop server. It is in the Email zone. If I uninstal Windows Firewall Control Plus it can connect. I am using Windows 7 64-bit.

Thanks for any help Paul .

“After” does not mean “due to” always.
It could be a coincidence with a temporary problem of the peer for instance.
Did you see any blocking notifications immediately after the connection request?
The blocking notifications are usually very descriptive.
Was it the first connection attempt of just detected application? The first attempt to connect of a non-listed application is always blocked by W7FC. So a retry (maybe manual, application dependent) is expected.

The main way to diagnose such problems is
- make sure the problem is reproducible
- trace the blocking notifications; make sure the zone set is correct. Set EnableAll for the application if there are doubts about the right zone and retry.
- Set temporary TrayIcon/RightClick/Mode:EnableAll (to switch the firewall off entirely).
if the problem exists in Mode:EnableAll the firewall is not involved.
- If the problem still exists under Mode:Normal provide us with more details or a way to reproduce.
