Windows7FirewallControl XP Edition

The XP Editions is standalone branch of Windows7FirewallControl project.
The XP Edition is not based on WindowsFilteringPlatform (WFP, the network security core of Vista and Windows7, mistakenly identified with WindowsFirewall). WindowsXP has no WFP inside in spite of WindowsFirewall presence in XP. As the result the XP Edition is based on its own network filtering driver. The driver presence determines majority of the differences between the editions and has several important consequences although the Control Panels of the editions are of nearly the same functionality.
The XP Edition
- Not compatible with other firewalls (excepting WindowsFirewall). We did not generate any incompatibilities intentionally; however the entire compatibility should not be expected.
- supports TCP and UDP protocols only (in the current version). All the other protocols are beyond the XP Edition and expected controllable via WindowsFirewall (for instance)
- supports IPv4 only. IPv6 is not controlled by the XP Edition (in the current version)
Notes:
(a) All the network access attempts of non-listed applications are initially blocked. The applications are expected to retry the attempts automatically (on their own) or manually (by forcing refresh/reconnect). However there are application (old InternetExplorer for instance) tending to hang after an unsuccessful attempt. The applications are to be restarted manually after the listing.
(b) Regarding various firewall leak checkers. If a checker does not specify the leak found in details, the checker hardly makes sense. There are several well known checkers act like a kind of marketing tools actually recognizing/rating/recommending/advertising a specific firewall only. So if you find a leak we do need the details beyond a possible negative estimation.
