Postby womd » Wed Mar 23, 2011 8:20 pm

hi!

had a remote Windows Server 2008 R2 WebEdition , firewall configured to allow remotedesktop, etc , was working great ... , heard about your tool, read the faq , littel docs, , downloaded installed, started ... LOCKED !

now the server is offline on all fronts, cannot access it anymore. I somehow had a fear about that bevore ... thougt it would be based on the current rules....
.
Have to call a "hardware reset". ....

did not read about such behaviour ? am i missing something ?

Most probably because of improper W7FC configuration and a W7FC specifics. W7FC blocks any initial access attempt of non listed applications. After the block is made W7FC prompts the user for the permissions.
If you did not put enough enabling rules, W7FC prompts to connected window session, which was unavailable at that moment (local?). Then W7FC set the default rule to the application, DisableAll by default.
As the result a vital service (or the core) was blocked.

We will try to investigate the scenario in details

The problem has been reproduced and (hopefully) fixed.
RemoteDesktop functionality is provided in the name of System application.
When you invoke the setup remotely, after the installation W7FC detects System application and sets it with DisableAll (by default).
After disabling System the remote desktop stops responding as blocked on the server side.
The local server desktop shows the application detection prompt with a recommended enabling zone advised though.

The current version sets LocalSystem (recommended) zone on the initial detection immediately regardless of the Settings pane default settings.
Another exception is made for Svchost.
