Feature request: rename Program Name

Feature request: rename Program Name

Postby svott » Tue Nov 03, 2009 8:43 pm

Is it possible to rename the Program Name title for an item in the Applications list ? I do not see a way to supply my own name.

This would be nice for cases when the automatic name is not appropriate or descriptive enough. For example, I run both x64 and x86 versions of Internet Explorer. The first one I added is called "Internet Explorer" and the second one I added to WFC is called "Internet Explorer (1)". I would prefer to see "Internet Explorer (x64)". I have different rules for each IE because they have different ActiveX controls installed, with their own port requirements.

Thanks !

Unfortunately there is no way for name customization is provided due to the only reason.
The names must be unique to guarantee the underlying data consistency.
The only way to guarantee that is the automatic name assignment.

What you can try to do at your own risk is

-Stop the control panel (TrayIcon/RightClick/Close)
-Stop the Windows7FirewallService in the MyComputer/RightClick/Manage/Services
-make the direct registry patch (see below)
-Start the service back via Services
-Start the panel

The patch is
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\sphinx-soft\Vista-Wall\1.0\AppList\YourAppName
You have to rename YourAppName key and rename “name” value of the key accordingly.

Once again. At your own risk

A feature request for people not as good in english:

some understandable examples, f.e. how should the settings for an internet programm (f.e. firefox) look like, or the settings for just a pc programm (burner, music..)
Somme screens showing the settings.

Please realize that security environment can vary so settings for (e.g.) Firefox made by one person following a security environment may not be suitable (secure) for another person under another security environment. That is why there can be no universal per-application settings.

The zone settings process with free version is pretty simple however; you have to just decide whether you need a program accessing the network and choose DisableAll or EnableAll zone.

The Plus version includes so called “zone adviser” – the feature suggests a proper zone depending on the accessing application and the access details. You can just accept the recommended zone as the initial setting and you are able to change the zone anytime later.

The notification popups specify the blocked events strictly, so you are (accidentally) get “over-blocked” with an application you are able to diagnose the problem immediately.
